Re: Linux Newsreader that downloads and assembles Videos?

I'm running with Verizon's lowest price DSL package which is 1mpb so that could have something to do with it...
But i have noticed that since knocking the default setting on LottaNzb from 8 to 4 connections (in the preference section for usenet server) that i am no longer having the problem of the nzb downloads stopping while web surfing and streaming flash radio or video...

SAB is quite good but actually Lotta is the easiest to use since it has it's own GUI (and not web based like SAB)...
I wasn't aware of NZB and will have to take look

I am not a heavy video/mp3 downloader so it is more economical for me to to use Astraweb's "pay as you go" packages...I had the 25 gb for $10 deal when i was only doing mp3s (enough to last forever...lol) But now that i am doing videos also, i willl add the 180 gb for $25 package (new offering and perfect for a casual video downloader who does mostly divx files)....

I think Astraweb is pretty darn good and rarely blips out on me...i think it was LOTTA being overtaxed by the high connection setting...not using the SSL but could switch of course...do you find it better?

edit: looked at screenshots ...looks pretty simple though look at LottaNzb it has a VERY SIMPLE INTERFACE (more so that SAB does)...and works VERY WELL

I wouldn't say better. It might add to my connections being dropped. I don't know as I haven't tested it. It only happens maybe 2 or 3 times a month and I can code around it. SSL encrypts the data being transmitted so your ISP cannot easily see the data you are downloading. The recent net neutrality law that was just passed, talks about traffic shaping cannot apply to legal downloads. You know what that means. If your isp determines that your download is illegal they will start delaying your packets. I feel it is better that my isp not know what I am downloading as I am not their best customer.

It looks like nzb and lottanzb are pretty much the same. looking at the dependencies, I would say that nzb fits with kde and lottanzb fits with gnome. That would only come into play for me, if everything else were equal. I still subscribe to groups and comb through like I have for years, because 75% of what I download I would have never thought to search for. I think a lot of people with a background in the file sharing and torrents don't get into downloading headers and scanning. This gives me an idea to make a basic and advanced option within my program to cater to different user backgrounds.

what nzb site/s are you currently using? I was disappointed about newzleech disappearing. My latest favorite is nzb.cc

        I'll check yours out also....

I also sometimes use this one...though i generally like binsearch better:
        http://www.nzbindex.nl/

Edit: Just checked out your site...i like
Thanks for the tip...if you have any others similar...let me know...

I also run LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition 64 bit) aside from Kubuntu....and LottaNZB is an excellent and simple gnome application quite similar to the NZB (on the kde side)....i do most of this nzb downloading in LMDE...

It seems that nobody mentioned Kwooty ! As KDE users you might have a look on it.

Homepage (where I found ppa links): http://kwooty.sourceforge.net/

And a review of this nzb grabber: http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...er.html?cat=15

            Cheers.
