HTML plugin for Kate

Whed I used kate on older KDE (probably 3.5) there was extremely useful and time saving option of "Insert HTML tag" or something similar - the shortcut was alt - minus key. I used it a lot when I wanted to add html tags to text. From what I understand, this option was provided by something called "Kate HTML Plugin" (or something similar).

I switched kubuntu 10.10 and sadly the option is now gone from kate. The HTML plugin is not there. I tried looking on the internet for solution, but the only thing I found is this topic:

As you can see in the last post, I was told to ask on this forum, so I ask - where is the very useful HTML plugin for Kate?

Have you tried Tools > Mode > Markup > HTML

It's enabled, but that does not change the fact that HTML tools plugin for Kate is not available and I do not have "Insert HTML Tag" option available (it used to be under Tools menu).

I followed the directions on that page and got this (see image). Maybe not exactly what was there before, but it's something.

Maybe you should try Bluefish?

Yeah, I can use another program, but I am just curious why was a useful feature removed from kate? I switched to new KDE because I thought things will be better, not worse.

EDIT: Looks like the missing functionality is sort-of present in plugin "XML completion". Shortcuts are different and there is a bug which forces you to click ok instead of pressing enter, but I guess it is better than nothing.

I agree with you there. Amarock and the monochrome panel icons are other examples of this phenomena.

I think it usually has to do with a developers idea of what functions are important or not. Since we're not using a commercial product (in the sense that the developers are responsible to us because we paid for functionality), they decide what they want to work on and (hopefully) respond to input once in a while.
