SOLVED AdobeAir and BBC iPlayer Desktop

Installing on 10.10 64-bit works fine following the instructions on http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/521/cpsid_52132.html. The BBC Desktop functions well once I reenabled KWallet.

My problem is that when I refresh the repositories the BBC Desktop is reported as broken, and the reason seems to be that AdobeAir does not show as installed in Synaptic. It does not matter if I install AdobeAir using .deb or .bin, it still is not reported as installed. Any ideas about how to make AdobeAir show as installed?

The solution was simple once I thought of it: Install the BBC Desktop, copy its folder somewhere, uninstall the BBC Desktop and copy the folder back to its previous position. Both AdobeAir and the BBC Desktop work, and neither of them show up as installed in the database, so there is no broken message.

You're posting this in Kubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. I just looked at the BBC iPlayer - Install BBC iPlayer Desktop web page, and under Linux, packages are available for 32- and 64-bit Ubuntu 9.04 - they don't have a package for 10.10.

Not all packages, especially 'third-party' non-*buntu packages, written for a previous release are going to work 'fully' or at all, in a current release.

You are right of course. Managed to find this package at some ppa: adobeair_2.0.4.13090-1maverick1_i386.deb. Also it was not recognized in the apt database.

It seems to me that when using a work around by installing a 32-bit program to a 64-bit linux system, the program is not registered properly in the database.

I maybe spoke too soon, I have been asked once to update adobeair to which I answered later. This is at least better than getting the broken message which requires uninstallation of BBC iPlayer Desktop.
