kubuntu 10.10 and kde updates ...

I tried to update my kubuntu 10.10 (the official ver. with kde 4.5.1) to kde 4.5.3 (the current kde version) through the ppa (deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu maverick main AND deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu maverick main) on two hard drives on my home computer. On the first one the update (kde 4.5.1 → kde 4.5.3) was successful. On the second one (on the same computer) the update seemed to be flawless. But when the kdm asked for the user account, I typed in the user name and the password. The kdm begun to load the kde settings and I get into a black screen, but mouse cursor was still active. Really it is very weird. How this could happen on the same computer?. Any clue. Thanks a bunch.

Remark: How can people just use the next recommended steps to solve such issues if you use wifi devices (first you have to establish the network connection within the console):

    sudo aptitude update
    sudo aptitude full-upgrade
    sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop
    sudo rm -rf /tmp/kde*
    sudo rm -rf /var/tmp/kdecache*

    Thanks again.

Re: kubuntu 10.10 and kde updates ...

On my laptop, with wifi only, I cannot get Internet connection when I use the grub menu to enter recovery mode and then choose netroot with Internet connection. I can only get Internet connection with this approach when I connect an Ethernet cable from my laptop to my router.

Hope you are able to do this with your setup.
