KDE 4.5.3 is available for Kubuntu 10.10, but failed to ...

On kubuntu website (kubuntu.org) you might recognise the following:
Packages for the release of the KDE Software Compilation 4.5.3 are available for Kubuntu 10.10..... But nobody has tested or even noticed that it is buggy. After adding the appropriate rep. links in sources.list file:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu maverick main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu maverick main

I gave the command: sudo adept updater
I saw the new packages of kde 4.5.3 in the choice list, it seemed the everything is ok during the update, till I got a kdm-related message. I After the update, the system was rebooted, but kde could not start up. Any clue. Thanks a bunch.

Kinda late jumping in here, but has this problem been resolved? I just installed Maverick and would like to upgrade to the latest official KDE.

The problem for the OP was a packaging bug, and has no bearing on the 4.6 ones

Thanks for the info. However, I am not sure if I want to jump to 4.6 at this point. I understand 4.6 has been just released. I've read that it's best to wait until all the initial kinks have been worked out (i.e. wait till 4.6.3 or so). For that reason, I'd like to go from 4.5.1 to the latest 4.5.x. Is it still possible?
