    How to read AVCHD Lite in Kubuntu?

    When I use a USB card reader with the mem card from my camera (Panasonic DMC-FZ45), any AVCHD Lite files are not shown in either Krusader or Dolphin.

    What to do?

    For info,

    $ uname -a
    Linux jon-desktop 2.6.32-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 17 20:05:27 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

    Well, I have solved half the problem. On the Panasonic memory card, the AVCHD LIte files are not in the same place, i.e., under DCIM. They are buried deep in

    /media/card/PRIVATE/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM

    as MTS files. I can copy them to my hard disk and click on them and pick open file with Dragon Player and the video is shown fine. BUT, if I open Dragon Player and the pick Open Media > Open File, it does not find the MTS files. Kdenlive does the same thing.

    So how to tell Dragon Player how to play the file?

    I can also start them with /usr/bin/mplayer, but can find no way to start mplayer alone and then pick a file form it. It was not in my start menu and it does not seem to want to start without any parameters.

      Re: How to read AVCHD Lite in Kubuntu?

      I have installed mplayer-gui and smplayer, which allows me to start mplayer or smplayer. However, mplayer does not allow me to open AVCHD LIte (x.MTS) files. And smplayer complains that the version of mplayer is too old and does a very bad job indeed of displaying th video.

      Once again, VLC plays the files just fine. Bravo VLC.

        I think the Dragon Player dont support MTS files. You can try VLC or KMplayer.

            But playback was choppy as it was in SMplayer but in VLC it played nicely, in Dragon Player the playback was so-so.
            You DO know how to associate files with applications?
            cool now I have something to work with

            as is only Kmplayer would play it ok but choppy/no sound.............but after using winff to convert to .avi all the players played it fine.
