    [FIXED] /usr/bin/X :0 vt7 -nr -nolisten tcp -auth /var/run/xauth/A:0-26HBac

    /usr/bin/X :0 vt7 -nr -nolisten tcp -auth /var/run/xauth/A:0-26HBac

Can someone tell me what this command is doing, please?

And preferably why it's using 80-90% cpu.

    Thanks.
Conflict is sleep. Peace is awakening.

That is the X server that is basically responsible for your GUI interface (among other things)

It commonly is the busiest process on an "idle" system, but if it continuously takes 80-90% of cpu then something is likely wrong (or bugged). I'd start with disabling desktop effects (if enabled) to see if that makes a difference.

Yeah, thanks, that has sped things up.
Immediate improvement when Desktop Effects turned off.
      CPU calmed some.

That command still uses a lot of cpu from time-to-time tho.
Its erratic - I'll keep watching and hope it all comes clear.

      Thanks for your help.

What video card (or GPU) do you have in your PC?

          Hey y'all,

Well, after turning-off desktop effects, there was a temporary improvement, but my cpu was still all over the place, up and down and up again.
The above command was top of htop most of the time and spiking at 80-90% regularly.

I have now found the culprit ... nothing to do with KDE/Kubuntu... crappy RAM.

As soon as I swapped-in decent memory to my new pc, all was, and is, fine.
Speedy and sexy, desktop effects and all.

Thanks for looking, and for the above assistance.

Hardware problems can be a pain to track down, glad you got it solved.
