No sound, no network no network manager after upgrade

my computer is an Amilo Pa 3553

Had sound in 10.04, had network managers and everything worked.

Now i tried to upgrade to 10.10 but after upgrading found out that there is no sound- dead, neither there was network manager as I remember.

So I tried to download kubuntu 10.10 dvd. Total waste of time, mostly because i cant boot from that dvd- message "no operating system found" so its pretty much useless. So then I downloaded cd version. No sound again after install, no network manager visible, impossible to connect or detect wireless networks.

Question is - how to get that damn sound (dead in headphones and speakers) ? Type commands if you want me to perform specific tasks, no enigma "check your checksum5" replies please, maybe there are geniuses in using console, but im not one of them.

Did you boot the Live CD? Do you have networking with that?

oh yes, I tried to boot without the install and check the sound there - NOGO no sound just like after install. And this was performed using 10.10 cd version. When I tried the 10.04 cd, then during a session without install I had sound and networking, using 10.10 cd - no sound and no networking

And btw. After installing 10.10 I just cant find knetwork manager or wicd, just like there isnt any present.

OK, networking is one thing, and audio is a different thing. Networking problems on a default installation are pretty unusual, but audio issues are pretty common. I recommend we focus on networking.

You're not going to install wicd or anything else, until you have a working connection to the Internet.

Can you boot the Live CD, choose "Try Kubuntu", and when you have the Kubuntu desktop, run these commands in the Konsole, and do a screen capture or something so you can paste the output here in the forum.

        Code:
        lspci
        Code:
        lsmod
        Code:
        sudo ifconfig -a
        Code:
        sudo service networking start
Also if you get error messages on that last command, it would be good to see the error.
