    eSata drive is not detected

I just installed a PCI eSata card on my PC. This card has an eSata cable connected to a external case that contains an internal drive. When I reboot the PC I can not see this drive.

If all is going well, should the operating system detect the drive and create a /dev/sdxx driver that can be used to mount the device?
Right now I see nothing that indicates the new drive is active. Are there any dianostic programs that can be run to test if the card and/or the drive are alive?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/comments.
