    [SOLVED]ipod won't eject

I am running Kubuntu 10.10. When I attach an ipod nano 8gb software version 1.1.3 all is well. When I go to eject it, the computer tells me it is now safe to disconnect this device but the ipod tells me don't disconnect. Can anyone tell me what is going on? I know ipods and linux are not the best of friends but can they be made to work?

What ipod apps have you installed from the repository.
    There are several:
    gtkpod
    ipod
    plus more
For the ipod touch there is usbmuxd.
I have an iPod 4 Touch and it connects via the USB and I can browse it with Dolphin.

I have gtkpod. It all works (more or less). I can eject the pod from gtkpod. I can read the files on Dolphin. I can eject it from the device notification thingy on the bottom of the screen. I can eject it from Dolphin. All of this indicates I am working correctly, but the iPod persists with its "do not disconnect" message with the red circle and a slash through it.

You are right, his issue wasn't resolved, it is the same issue, therefore my issue is not resolved. When I eject the pod from Kubuntu and then open console and type in "df" it shows no pod. Therefore it has correctly disconnected, but the Pod itself will not accept this. Apple is being as pigheaded as Microsoft in this.

Here is the solution. Although I named my pod with all lower case, the Kubuntu system saw it as MYPODNAME instead of mypodname. Therefore the corect command has to be:

            kdesudo eject /media/MYPODNAME

Wierd behaviour but that's how it went for me. I am still trying to come to grips with gtkpod and my stubborn pod, but we are moving ahead.

            I hope this helps others.

not really a solution, but if you don't have to buy istuff. you can just get a regular player of somekind. you will be less likley to have these issues , i have been very happy with archos players in the past. Most of these show as regular usb thumb drives, so you just put you music on it and don't have to use any kind of management software to do that.

You are right but the Pod was a gift so I thought I might as well make it work.
