Hi all,
I have, what seems to be, "one of those problematic notebooks". So much so, that there doesn't seem to be a Linux distro that will install on it.
Doing a search through Google reveals numerous people having tried & failed.
A detailed explanation & work around can be found here (The notebook model here is an Averatec 2460, the X59 is the same machine re-branded)
http://www.fitzenreiter.de/averatec/index-e.htm
Unfortunately, that work around no longer seems to work with the current version. And, as reported the installer freezes.
I've tried various latest distro's, Kubuntu - Ubuntu 10.10, OpenSUSE 11.3, Mandriva 2010.2, Puppy Linux 5.2, Live CD's where available. None will start up. I've tried using the options to disable ACPI, safe settings & adding the memory exclusions as referred to in the link above. But none work.
I've even installed through Windows using WUBI, but same problem, would not boot into Kubuntu.
Any ideas gratefully received
Neo
