Dual boot. removing one OS

Hey guys,

i have a dual boot machine, windows xp, and kubuntu 10.10. winxp is on a 40gb drive, and kubuntu is on a 10gb drive. (both internal) my subscription to norton antivirus just expired, so i would like to format the 40gb drive and use it for extra storage. what is the best way to format the drive for use in kubuntu? also, regarding the grub config...will it automatically be updated, or do i have to manually change it?

what ver of Kubuntu are you on ?

yes you can do just that .....do you have Gparted installed or a Gparted livecd ?

I would say their the easiest to do what you want...........but if I may suggest if you dont have that mutch time invested in the install I would reinstall with root on the 10Gig drive and /home on the 40Gig .........how mutch RAM do you have on that box?

answer these and we will get you set ................I am also assuming Kubuntu has been working well on your box............rite.

kubuntu has been running fine. i dont have gparted installed, or a live cd.

2.5 GB ram

if your up for seting the box up for just linux I would

1- get a Gparted or parted magick livecd

2- move the 10Gig drive to the primarey IDE SATA line and the 40 as secondary

3- use the livecd (Gparted) to take 2Gig of the end 40Gig drive and format linux swap format what's left as ext3 or ext4 and the same for the 10Gig

4- install fresh with / on the 10Gig and /home and swap on the 40Gig



if that's not an option then just reformat the NTFS space to ext3 or 4 and use it for storage
