    Microphone not working @ all.

Hello fellow kubuntu users. Like the title of this topic says, it is about my microphone.

I spend the last few days searching for a solution why it aint working, it did in ubuntu, so why not in kubuntu? The audio stacks are the same in ubuntu as it is in kubuntu.

The volume sliders are all up and unmuted like you can see.

The used stack is the ALSA one.

    openeye@kubuntu:~$ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
    Codec: Realtek ALC861-VD
    Codec: LSI ID 1040

Has someone an idea to get this working? And why is it so difficult @ the ubuntu distro's to get recording working?

    Kind regards

    Hi,
I had this same problem. In the k-Menu > Multi-media section there's a recording app. I don't know what it's call atm, but it's a KDE app. I started it up to test it b/c I was having the same issue as you. Turns out it was muted and when I unmuted it... Ta da!! My mic worked in everything! Give it a try.

You lost me at push on volume control....

Start the krecord app and uncheck the 'mute' button under the mic-in. There should be a graphic of the sound wave that is input. It will be blank until you're getting input.

            hi,
Click on File > Open Volume Control. Select the Input tab. Click the unmute button on the right next to the Input Volume slider. Here is a screenie.

EDIT: The program is called gnome-sound-recorder 2.31.6 (not Krecord)

Hi, I'm pretty sure the program you're using (the one in your screen shot) is the same program I posted a screenie of. I was just calling it by the wrong name. In the K-Menu, it's simply called Sound Recorder. Did you find the unmute and give it a try?

Sorry mate, there is no where an unmute button or checkbox. I think that it is the best i just install ubuntu-desktop and try if it works there.

Same problem here, Sound Recorder shows no action on sound-level indicator

I too have the dead microphone problem, on an Asus K60IJ laptop. I first discovered it in Skype with the sound-test service. So I went into Sound Recorder, clicked the red-dot "record" button, and looked at the sound-level indicator as I tapped the built-in mike and also tried speaking into it. No response at all. I also tried arecord | asound from a command line and got some low-volume static, nothing else.

Looks like a bug to me. Has anyone seen reports on it?

                      pwabrahams,
Just to clarify, did you go into Volume Control and unclick the 'mute' button on the Input tab?
