Switchable graphic cards on Acer Timelinex 4820TG

    Hello everyone,

I have recently bought this awesome laptop and installed Kubuntu 10.10
Everything worked almost out of the box. But there are currently two problems that i am facing:
    1. The laptop is running hotter. After running this command "cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch" i can see that both the GPU are running simultaneously. The laptop is running hotter. How to enable the switchable graphics feature on Kubuntu.

    2. The audio is configured out-of-the-box but the output level is very low? Sound shows Redwood HDMI.. Plz help

    Thanks in advance

may have some useful info and links - this is relatively new stuff in terms of kernel support

just note where it says to run 'sudo gedit', substitute 'kdesudo kate' on Kubuntu systems

but do note the kernels mentioned are older now, and iirc proper support is in 10.10 kernels now, so take the date into consideration when trying things out

      Hi...

I have no idea concerning the switchable graphics. I don't know if the programmers have got this one nailed solid yet.

For sound, make sure all your channels are enabled and turned up and that "PCM" is turned all the way up. More information on this thread.

it is also pretty new , but it may work. I don't see it yet available via the 'get new widgets' tool in the "add Widgets' dialogs, it is only an hour or so old right now

I was able to shut down the ATI grpahics card and able to achieve a decent battery life of 6 hours. Will try for the Switchy thing and post back. The only problem is I dont know which drivers are installed on my PC?
