I got a new machine a while ago with this graphics card and an Acer P223W screen. I installed 10.04 and then 10.10. Being new to nVidia (and maybe a little slow) I didn't check for nVidia drivers installed. I finally realised this yesterday and used the Additional Drivers function to install the latest driver (210.19.06). What a difference However, I now have a black outlined, but transparent rectangle in approximately the top left quarter of my screen. It doesn't seem to bother anything, but it's ugly. I added the xorg-edgers repository and did an update. A lot of xorg stuff got added or upgraded. Still got the issue with the black line rectangle. Has anyone else experienced this. I did do a search, but found nothing using keywords I could think of. TIA

Re: nVidia G94 9600GS (750Mb) black line
No, it was at 1680x1050 under the system settings before and the nVidia driver manager shows it as that as well. I did, in response to another question you replied to for me, adjust the memory settings in OpenOffice due to icon and widget distortion, but as I said there, I think the nVidia driver has fixed that. I'll just keep watching this and see what happens at each restart. ThanksAn old mainframer trying to get modern in his retirement.

Re: nVidia G94 9600GS (750Mb) black line
I went into Desktop Effects and turned off shadow. I then did a restart and it didn't work. I disabled effects and enabled effects and that worked. I didn't do a restart so I'm not sure if it'll hold. I'll try that in about 1/2 hour.
EDIT: That worked. Thanks guys
EDIT: It only works intermittently. I have to do the disable-enable of desktop effects again when it doesn't work.An old mainframer trying to get modern in his retirement.
