I'm using Kubuntu 10.10 on an iMac; in the past there haven't been many problems (getting the internal microphone to work!). However, with 10.10 I seem to be getting funny responses when I install programs through KpackageKit. I installed volume control (there was no volume control in the panel when I reinstalled Kubuntu this morning), used kmenu edit to access volumeconrol, then the icon staid at the extreme left of the panel. I uninstalled and the re installed VolumeControl and accessed it by using mc and clicked on @volume in /usr/bin and got the following message:
