    More software questions...

    Hi all...

A couple questions regarding these two programs...

    1. For some reason Kopete (IM) will not log in to my account. I know for a fact my login information is correct and although it tries to connect, it simply can't. Is there a way to fix this?

    2. If I get an e-mail in Thunderbird that includes a link to go to a website, what file do I have it look for to open Firefox and where would I find it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Regards...

Can't help you with that. I don't use Kopete.

You run firefox by executing its executable, as usual.

Rather than give you a fish, here is how to fish:

      sudo updatedb

      which updates the "locate" database.

      locate bin/firefox

      or

      whereis firefox

        Hi Aardvark.

Firstly what is the chat to which you want to connect? If it is Yahoo, Kopete has had problems with Yahoo for years, one fix was to log into the Asian chat. However, the last iteration of Kopete and Yahoo works for me. I use Yahoo almost exclusively, gmail chat for interaction with students.

However, again, even though it "works" it doesn't allow me to send an IM to someone who is offline and that is why I use mostly Pidgen, but I do use Kopete regularly to test it.

There is another, I'm at work now, giving a BIG TEST!!! , I think "GAIM" or "ja ju ja ju" or some such that was not working for folks about a year ago, as I remember(Ill edit the above when I get to the apartment if you have not replied).

If it is not Yahoo or the other one; then the folks who actually know stuff would probably need the information to help with a work around or something.

          Aardvark,
I may have misunderstood your second question. IF you are asking how you can fire off the web browser to automatically open a link in an email, then go to Settings, Default Applications, and set the default browser there.

              Hi guys...

I'm still not having an easy time of this. This should be simple to set up.

@GreyGeek: I don't know where or which application you mean.

@Steve: I tried the instructions here using the search words you mentioned above. However, when I try to put in the specific value into the filter, it doesn't work.

                Hi all...

Got everything solved, for the most part. I was able to figure out how to get the link issue taken care of, however, with Kopete, I could not. I installed Pidgin, which works fine.

                Thanks again for your help.

You might try Telepathy KDE, too. Eventually, this will replace Kopete in KDE.

Thanks, Steve. Doesn't appear to be a version for Lucid, though.
