We are software developers and we are trying to run our windows application on Kubuntu 10.04 with wine. So far results are satisfactory. While printing we have two options One uses usual windows printing calls and in this mode when cups-pdf printer is selected it creates PDF file as expected, No problems with this. The other option is Fast Dot Matrix printing in which we use internal printer driver and Create Job in windows printing queue then send page by page data to that job, which in turn sent directly to printer by windows. This option is not doing anything when run under wine. We feel that the pdf driver might be rejecting this since it has some control characters (escape sequences) in data.
We would like to have a raw printer installed in Cups. If its possible to create Files on disk as PDF driver does then nothing like that since it will save few papers in testing phase and no need to attach printer physically to Computer. Can somebody guide us How to Install a raw printer using GUI or Otherwise ?
Our line of thinking regarding having a Raw printer is If wine is not supporting Windows Queue management calls then we can modify the application to create files in specific directory and those can be pushed to cups for printing. In production environment application will use printer attached to Server or some other node in LAN. All nodes and server will have KUbuntu installed and server will have SAMBA installed .
