    completed an install of lucid, and now a whole bunch of stuff [SOLVED] (THANKS!)

    it took me two days just to get an install that worked enough that i thought it was going to be okay again, but then things started malfunctioning...

    the most important thing is kontact/kmail/akregator... it doesn't start at all...

    it started yesterday... it started this morning... but then, in the process of trying to get other things to work, it crashed, and now it won't start at all.

    i went to Synaptic (which i use instead of kpackagekit), and installed all of the updates it said to... and now kontact no longer works.

    i've also got a problem with amarok... it appears to work, it plays the files that i have, but it says that all of the play-lengths for the individual tracks are 0:00 minutes. amarok 2.3.0 came with kubuntu 10.04, and i upgraded to 2.3.2, but according to what i understand, the bug isn't fixed until 2.4.0 which requires something (kde 4.6?) that kubuntu 10.04 doesn't have.

    amarok isn't important. kmail is, and it doesn't work.

    Start with attempting to launch the problematic program from a terminal. Then you can see any error output.

    Also, check dmesg output to see if anything relates.

      however when i type

      ls /usr/lib | grep libkontactinterface.so.4
      it returns nothing...

      what am i doing wrong?

        okay, i found this topic - http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3115530.0 - where the guy was having exactly the same problem -
        Code:
        kontact: error while loading shared libraries: libkontactinterface.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
        - with maverick (10.10) and i discovered that
        Code:
        sudo apt-get --reinstall install kdepim
        and
        Code:
        sudo apt-get --reinstall install libkontactinterface4
        changed the original error to
        Code:
        kontact: error while loading shared libraries: libakonadi-contact.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
        - essentially the same error, only with libakonadi-contact.so.4 instead of libkontactinterface.so.4.

        with a little searching, i found that libakonadi-contact.so.4 is a part of kdepimlibs5, so i tried

        sudo apt-get --reinstall install kdepimlibs5
        but that doesn't do it...

        so now i'm basically the same place i was yesterday, except that instead of looking for a fix for libkontactinterface.so.4, i'm looking for a fix for libakonadi-contact.so.4

        please help.

          Install libakonadi-contact4.
