Kontact unable to edit because it is locked by another process

Following some funny stuff in my Kontact startup, I now get the message

Unable to edit "..." because it is locked by another process

when I try to edit a calendar event.

Where does Kontact store its lock files? In other words, how do I get rid of the lock without losing all the calendar events?
