Update Notifications

Is it possible to be notified of updates when they become available?

I got something working called update-notifier. However it only tells me of updates when I reboot. Since I don't normally reboot, this isn't all that useful (I just rebooted and found I have over 100 updates).

So what do I do to be notified of updates when the become available or at least once a week?

I check every Friday or updates with Synaptic as there is usually no updates on the weekend
