    How to Install Open Office

I tried to install openoffice by following the steps in
    http://linux.dipin.info/2010/04/how-...ice-32-in.html

    I get the message:
    E: Couldn't find package openoffice

    the repository was added.

    Any help appreciated

Have you navigated to the folder with the decompressed files in it?
    cd filename_you_downloaded
    ?

No, because according to the message, it did not find the file in the repository.

      It said
      E: Couldn't find package openoffice

        3.2. has become 3.2.1

        You might look at http://www.muktware.com/news/08/2010/164

...Or you could install LibreOffice instead - http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/10/i...ce-ppa-ubuntu/

I installed Gnome desktop just to play around in Gnome and Voila, it also installed open office. I wonder why open office is not installed by default in Kubuntu. Not trying to start any debates on desktops but so far I like the Gnome desktop a lot better.

          thanx

@vigneron: Where did you get that from? OpenOffice is default in Kubuntu too.

Well, I thought it should be there before I installed Kubuntu but it was not there. It was not there in any of the menus and it was not there by trying to run from Konsole. I installed Kubuntu from a CD that came with the book "The Official Ubuntu Book" by Benjamin Mako Hill and others. Maybe the fault lies with the installation CD that I used, I don't know but at least I have it now.

It's indeed a fault from the CD then. 'Cause when you just download Kubuntu or get it via ShipIt, it contains openoffice by default. You can see it on the website too: http://www.kubuntu.org/feature-tour
