Re: VCD - what program can play it?
You need to have installed the required codecs to play DVDs and their ilk.
See HOWTO: Add the Medibuntu Repository and GPG Key
After you have added the Medibuntu repository and key, you need to install the required packages. Follow the instructions on the linked site:
6. Playing Encrypted DVDs (1. With the entire Medibuntu repository)
and
7. Playing Non-Native Media Formats (1. With the entire Medibuntu repository).
You should then be fine.Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Just wondering why Medibuntu doesn't support Maverick as of yet? It's going to be released in less than two weeks now!

deb http://packages.medibuntu.org/ lucid free non-free
Then went to synaptic did reload and it gave a key error.
Installed the key from within synaptic.
Will rename it to maverick when maverick is final.HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)

I tried Medibuntu startting with what they suggest to do at the beginning. Look what happened after given set of commands:
$ sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update

Re: VCD - what program can play it?
Some European countries prohibit / limit what you can download from the Internet. Germany for example, has very strict laws governing copyrighted content - codecs needed for playing commercial DVDs and such. Some countries actually block sites that contain this content, preventing downloading of the content. Trying a server in another country 'sometimes' bypasses these imposed blocks.Windows no longer obstructs my view.
