    Webcam issue

Since I upgraded to KDE 4.5 in Kubuntu, Kamoso is not getting installed. The error message that I am getting is :

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kamoso : Depends: libvlc2 (>= 1.0.0~rc) but it is not going to be installed
    E: Broken packages
Would be great help, if the above issue can be resolved. If there are other packages available for webcam usage, you can also advise me.

I can't resolve your problem but I can strongly recommend guvcview. I've been using it for a while now and I've found it to be an excellent piece of kit - even better than the Windows software that came with the webcam

      Re: Webcam issue

Kamoso isn't installable atm 'cause it isn't compatible with VLC 1.1 and higher. Even the Git-version of Kamoso fails to build 'cause of the incompatibility.

As a workaround, I use Cheese, which is the GNOME-equavalent of Kamoso.

        guvcview
On my computer this program cannot start emitting such message:

        Guvcview error:

Can't set a valid video stream for guvcview
Make sure your device driver is v4l2 compliant
and that it is properly installed.

Maybe my webcam isn't compatible. It is Philips SPC230NC.

          Question
Are there Linux/*NIX drivers for the Philips webcams?
          Answer

No, there are no official Linux/*NIX drivers for the Philips webcams.

          Linux users can look here.
My suspicions are that your camera is NOT supported. But, there is a binary on my system that may be on yours:
          /usr/bin/indi_v4l_philips
You can run it and see what happens. Perhaps it is run as a pre-load to cheese or guvcview or skype, as suggested in this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1210295
(The link in that thread is not active, but it points to this web site: http://linuxtv.org/hg, which leads to http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/We...s#gspca_driver, which leads back to http://www.saillard.org/linux/pwc/, which has drivers, install instructions, and links to GUIs and other stuff, none of which I'd guarantee to work with your camera.

Guvcview is a great program, but it only works with cameras that use the uvcvideo driver. This is most Logitech cameras.

Just to add to the list of Webcams that work with guvcview:

Then why don't you install Cheese?
