Set compiz fusion as default windows mgr (Solved)

I've installed compiz fusion from instructions here... http://kubuntuguide.org/Lucid

"To change to Compiz as the Window Manager:

K menu -> System Settings -> Advanced -> Session Manager -> Window Manager -> Compiz"

I'm running 10.04 and I do not see this setting. I'm assuming that is my problem because when I reboot, I boot to a command line logon. When I logon, kwin is then running.

You can try to install fusion-icon. Run it, right-click on the tray icon and select Compiz as your window manager.

I already have it installed and compiz is selected as window manager. If I restart, the fusion icon goes away.

Go to "Systemsettings > Advanced > Autostart", click on "Add Program" and enter /usr/bin/fusion-icon .

Thanks Yuri. That made it start up upon reboot.

I do however get 2 crashes when compiz starts.

Very odd. Which version of Kde are you using, the old 4.4.2 that comes with Kubuntu 10.04, the updated 4.4.5 or the current 4.5.1?
To find out, enter the following in a Konsole window:
            kde4-config -v

That was the problem. I was running 4.4.2.
I'm now running KDE 4.5.1 and everything is ok.
