Dolphin / Amarok not reading audio cd's

I have recently switched to Kubuntu and love it, except amarok does not play audio cd's. Also when I open the cd in dolphin or konqueror, there are no files in the audio cd directory. I have seen a few other people with this problem on the forums, but very few solutions, none of which have worked for me.

    Help?

    thanks in advance

Re: Dolphin / Amarok not reading audio cd's

The 'latest' version of Amarok does not deal with audio CDs well at all. This is probably the #1 complaint about the version 2 series of Amarok. I personally doubt that the developers will do anything to remedy it. Sad.

Dolphin identifies and shows the contents of my audio CDs just fine. Dolphin reports the CD under Places as Audio CD and the actual mount point in the URL is audiocd:/
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Amarok 2.3.1 with Kde 4.5.1 I found if you have Amarok already running when you insert an audio cd
and select open with Amarok it will add the cd to your local collection and you can play the tracks

I am also running 2.3.1 under 4.5.1 and it does indeed work if the CD tray is closed whilst Amarok is running. However it still very flaky and it is amazing how something so seemingly simple can cause so many problems. Exaile works without fail and surely the Amarok devs could look at the source code for that and see what they are doing wrong, come to that Amarok 1.4.x worked well enough in the past.

This isn't a good advert for open source software and you would think that the bad PR would bother the developers. I have been on the Amarok forum before now but they don't seem that interested.

I have the same problem. I don't have amarok installed but dolphin refuses to display the contents of audio CDs. If anyone's into bug hunting there's some interesting stuff here - and one person with the exact problem who appears to have ababdoned the bug as the developers asked him for a screenshot -

I can see the contents of the CD in Dolphin, but it takes a loooong time to show up (several minutes!). Amarok would just choke on everything related to the CD. In the previous OS it was very reliable. Trying to copy a track from the CD using Dolphin is a different story. It acts like it's going like hell copying the track, but no data is being transferred. I selected only one track, it's been "copying" now for about 10 minutes. Obviously nothing is happening.

I'm strongly suspecting a driver issue. I have an older PATA attached Sony DVD R/W unit. When I boot into XP (which I've had to do a lot more lately thanks to all the issues > ) it works fine, so there's no physical problem with he drive.

I sent an email to David Sansome, one of the developers of Clementine and he asked me to raise CD support as an issue. He said that up to now demand for it has been low, so the more people that add comments the more likely they will do it.

Clementine is not Amarok, which this thread is about. If you desire to endorse/promote Clementine, please start a new thread in Everything Else.

Clementine is based on Amarok 1.4.10. I think that the devs have decided to give up on Amarok CD support therefore I feel it legitimate to suggest alternatives.

Re: Dolphin / Amarok not reading audio cd's

Some people are having trouble playing CDs, while others are not. It's always worked for me, both building from GIT and installed from the repos. Difficult for the developers to work on when it seems to be a Kio problem, rather than an Amarok one.

When you run into a problem, PLEASE run Amarok (or Dolphin) from the console, with --debug enabled, thus:

                      amarok -d --nofork

Run it twice to get debugging working. File a bug (Help > Report Bug) or search for already filed bugs and add your information. For the devels to pin down the problem, they need backtraces and output.
