I did an update to my system today. I don't remember what all was in it. i believe it included several software fixes as well as kernel and kernel header updates. Anyway upon reboot it complained about missing modules. and froze before the login splash screen. I powered down and restarted at which point I had no usb keyboard and mouse at the login screen. I added an old ps2 keyboard and mouse, both worked, and entered my password at which point my usb kbd and mouse began working. I haven't restarted again to see if the problem persists.

Re: USB keyboard and mouse not working after I updated today
The problem persists after additional restarts the usb keyboard and mouse do not work until approximately the same time as the sound system comes up. Seems like some modules are indeed missing (from the kernel??). I don't know how to fix that I guess I'll need to do some more research.

Re: USB keyboard and mouse not working after I updated today
Try entering your Bios with your Usb keyboard.
If you can't use the Usb keyboard in the Bios, you need to change the settings there (enable Usb devices) so it works.Shinda Sekai Sensen

Kubuntu Maverick RC x64 w/ Kde 4.5.2 (main)
Kubuntu 10.04 x64 w/ Kde 4.5.1to be wiped, no point in keeping it any longer

Re: USB keyboard and mouse not working after I updated today
Thanks for the suggestion, but the kbd and mouse are working in the bios..The mouse lights up for the bios boot and I am able to enter the bios from my usb keyboard. then the mouse and keyboard go off when gurb begins. They don't come back untill a couple of minutes after I bring up the desktop (using the ps2 kbd.)
A little more data from the syslog. It appears that the hid drivers aren't being loaded until more than 2 minutes after the first message about usb errors show up

Re: USB keyboard and mouse not working after I updated today
Weird... I'm using the very same Microsuck keyboard on Lucid x64, and it works fine for me - no 2 min delay during boot or anything.
Where do you have the keyboard and mouse plugged in? If it's on a Usb hub, try connecting them right on the PC. I've made no good experiences with Usb hubs.
If you've already have them connected right at the PC, it could be that the Usb ports you've plugged them in are shot. On my last PC, I had two Usb ports that were shot and caused odd behaviour of anything plugged in there.Shinda Sekai Sensen

Kubuntu Maverick RC x64 w/ Kde 4.5.2 (main)
Kubuntu 10.04 x64 w/ Kde 4.5.1to be wiped, no point in keeping it any longer

Re: USB keyboard and mouse not working after I updated today
Thanks for the reply I've tried both with and without a humb...makes no difference. Must admit I haven't tried all the usb ports. In the past i've had the best luck with the first couple ports. I'll try it though and report if it works.....also it's not just the keyboard, it's the Logitech mouse as well. It works with a ps2 adapter just fine but not in the usb port. Note this is not the same machine as in my other post with the bluetooth issue.
