    Amarok replaygain [Solved]

    Hi all,

Does anyone know how to get replaygain to work in Amarok now? I am in lucid with Amarok 2.3.1 with phonon/xine backend and am using KDE 4.5.0 with the ppa http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu/ enabled. I have a collection which has been tagged and it worked under Amarok 1 with the replaygain script, but now nothing.

I just can't figure what is going on. On the Amarok forum, the question is repeatededly ignored or it seems generally assumed that all is ok with replaygain, but I can't tell that it is working at all. (Quite frankly I am afraid to ask on that forum because the one developer guy is really agressive and slighly abusive when answering posts). Anyone know how I can check if it is working and what I can adjust to make it work?

    Thanks.

    Re: Amarok replaygain

It is unfortunate that the move from version 1.4 to 2 resulted in so much loss of previous functionality. The developers of Amarok taught it as the player for "all you music needs", yet if fails to perform to ones expectations with audio CDs. Others have complained at the problems playing pod casts. And there are complaints about mp3 players. And ...

Version 1.4 was a good application. It worked.

I understand your concerns about Amarok, as well as the KDE Forums. I no longer go there. Whenever a question comes up about some of the "pet" projects, such as Amarok, more often than not the answer was "it works on our platforms", with an implied " you must be stupid, or something". There are other audio players, jukeboxes, and managers available. Personally, I don't have very complex needs, so I use KMplayer (frontend for the very capable Mplayer) and listen to internet streams while I'm online.

I second the motion that Amarok has not been acceptable since version 1.4.

        Yes, you can add replaygain

Open Amarok - click Tools > Script Manager > Get More Scripts, now search for Amarok QtScript libary - then mark the checkbox close and restart Amarok

Again, click Tools > Script Manager > Get More Scripts and now search for ReplayGainer - add it mark the checkbox and restart Amarok.

        Now you have replaygain

Ps: you can change replaygain mode in Settings.

I think this script just calculates replaygain tags if you don't have them, according to the info. The settings tab already had the on/off buttons for replaygain in native 2.3, I just don't think they are working and I don't know how to check if they are, and if they are not, I don't know how to make them work.

Oh, and I downloaded the script anyway because it would be useful if I could get replaygain to work and there was no change in behaviour. Thanks for pointing the script out to me, tho, cause it'll save hassle down the road.

Oh, and I really really like Amarok 2.3. It was a little rough in the early versions 2.0, 2.1, but I am happy with it, except for the replaygain thing.

            Hi,

So, it looks like we have an answer. There are some odd inconsistencies for me, but overall, it is a win
