When I use Kaffeine, Amarok, and Skype the sound from these applications has frequent random short breaks. The frequency of the breaks increases if I drag a Firefox window quickly around the screen. After first using KDE 4.5 I noticed random clicking when using these applications. This problem seems to have become worse with the updates. It also becomes worse the longer the system is booted. In attempts to fix the problem I installed linux-backports-modulse-alsa-2.6.32-24-generic. Because of the random behaviour I am not sure if this lessened the problem.
My system is an ASUS F3Jr Laptop which has a 64Bit processor. I have not had this trouble with my 32Bit desktop.
The alsa packages that I have on my system are: alsa-utils, alsa-oss, alsa-base, libasound2, lib32asound2, libasound2-plugins, linux-sound-base, libsdl1.2debian-alsa, gstreamer0.10-alsa, bluez-alsa, llibao2. I have not installed any pulse audio packages.
If this cannot be resolved I might have to revert back to KDE 4.4.5.
NoWorries
PS. I have now done more testing and I found that the problem is provoked by using dual screen. When I reboot with a single screen, I cannot provoke the problem. So it looks like any time I want to use sound, I have to revert to a single screen. I wonder if the problem is then with KDE or the porting of KDE onto Kubuntu. It would be great if there is a fix to this problem in the meantime.
PPS. After many days of frustration with sound, I have finally found the solution. I NO LONGER USE THE LATEST KERNEL. I USE 2.6.32-23-generic. With this previous kernel, Kaffeine now gives clean uninterrupted sound on HD Digital TV and in other modes of operation, the sound from Skype and Amarok is clearer but there is "static" every now and then. Amarok is gives the "static" when the GUI is up . I hope a solution is found for this problem. I assume that either no one else has experienced this problem or that no one else has a solution.
