    digikam gobbling memory

I use digikam as my "Photo Manager" and I do a lot of editing, batch renaming, tagging etc. I've noticed that, as my digikam sessions progress, things gets slower and slower and slower. In fact, things get that slow, that I have to stop what I'm doing and quit digikam and then fire it up again. I've noticed that, prior to exiting digikam, it's consuming around 800Mb of memory!!! Anyone know if there's a fix for this?

    Have a look at this:

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...am/+bug/580902

There appears to be a solution(?)

Yes, there is a solution but I haven't tried it yet. As soon as I try it, I'll post back with my findings.
      Many thanks

        Re: digikam gobbling memory

I've now tried it and used it for a couple of days but, although there's a definite improvement, it doesn't fix the problem completely. It's now gobbling up ~500Mb of memory and I can use it for longer before I have to exit and re-start. There seem to be a number of folks on the digikam mailing list having similar problems so I'm hoping that the next digikam release fixes it for good.

Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction

You are welcome and I'm glad that there is at least some improvement.

Can you mark as 'resolved' or 'partly resolved'!!!!

            Re: digikam gobbling memory

@bitzbox: Please, PLEASE, PLEASE go back to launchpad and tell them that the fix did not work for you (and others)!. Right now, the people who are knowledgeable enough to swat bugs believe that the problem is resolved. They won't work on it any further unless they get feedback indicating that the problem has not been solved completely.

I see that 1.4.0 is out.
                Anyone packaged it yet?

                  Answering my own question

I installed the Meerkat Beta yesterday and amongst this morning's updates I spotted 1.4.0
However, this one isn't without its problems either
