    Skype mic not working

    Hi,

Installed the latest version of Skype on 10.04 and though the speaker works I can't get the mic to work. Have tried the solutions listed previously but haven't had any luck.

I have the mic up to a level where it doesn't give feedback and Digital & Capture up all the way.

Has anyone run into this problem lately and found a solution ?

    thanks,
    R.

Are you using PulseAudio? Try going to Pulse Audio Volume Control and mute/unmute the input device. I personally have to do this periodically when my mic isn't working in Skype.

I don't think I'm using Pulse Audio as I didn't install it and as I don't see it in the menus, I assume it wasn't installed by default in 10.04.

I didn't read through this entire thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1490687 but it seems to be related to what you are experiencing. If you don't have PulseAudio, you may need to install it then.

For what it's worth, I have Pulse and Skype working fine.

Maybe there is another better way but I was able to force Skype mic to work only with an usb mic on my webcam.
Kubuntu 16.04 on two computers and Kubuntu 17.04 on DELL Latitude 13

I don't have PulseAudio installed and Skype works great for me:

Sometimes running alsamixer as root, hitting F5 and then looking for the "digital" slider and running it up to 95% works. Also, sometimes there is more than one mic device seen but only one is displayed. Alsamixer will show them all and you can run their sliders up too. KMixer's "Configure Channels" also sometimes shows two mic devices but only one is shown in the GUI. Moving the other one over to the right side for displaying makes it available for adjusting the volume or unmutting it.

                  Re: Skype mic not working

I've tried the five HDA microphone settings available in Skype but with no success. That's the only thing I can see that can be done inside Skype.

Also I've gone into KMix and put the mic just below where it has feedback. This old Vaio has no built in mic so the only input is form what I've plugged in.

                  thanks,R.

Like the other post I've found that the mic only works when using a USB camera.
