Not sure if it will work in this case but might be worth a try.
I always run it with kdesudo, but the problem still exists.

I think it was something to do with sudo's environment setting, which kdesudo would work the same I imagine.
That's why I had to use kdesu not kdesudo.

      It's longshot I know.

Yeah, but kdesu is deprecated in Kubuntu KDE 4. kdesudo only works.

kdesu is still there, just "hidden from sight":

          Code:
          /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kdesu-distrib/kdesu systemsettings
It doesn't have an effect on this bug, though.

Maybe someone could have a look how mint does it?
I don't have a mint install anymore but I know synaptic comes up with the oxygen theme.

Same here. I always use kdesudo for Gui apps, and the bug is still there.

Don't have Mint here anymore, and not going to touch it anymore - they simply messed up too much things.

Synaptic is a completely different matter, as it is a Gtk app and not a Kde app. On my Synaptic run as root I can get the QtCurve style just fine (if I set it with kdesudo gtk-chtheme).
The bug affects only Kde app run as root (using kdesudo), not Gtk apps run as root.

Hi! I've found the solution here: http://ohioloco.ubuntuforums.org/sho....php?t=1557864

The last but one post says how to solve it:
Try running 'kdesudo systemsettings' then open 'application appearance'. In the style category, choose anything other than 'oxygen' for 'widget style'. Click apply. Now go back and choose 'oxygen'again for 'widget style'. Click apply. Close systemsettings then run 'kdesudo dolphin'. Dolphin when used with kdesudo should now be themed.

                        For me it's working!!

Another tip: If someone want to have the KDE style on GTK apps, do this:
                        sudo cp ~/.gtkrc-2.0-kde4 /root/.gtkrc-2.0

                          Nope, workaround doesn't work here

What sort of moronic advice is that? When you switch from Oxygen to another style and back to Oxygen, it then automagically divines what style you want to have and applies it? Most certainly not!
This does absolutely *nothing* to have a style *different* from Oxygen (e.g. QtCurve) for Kde apps run as root, which is what this bug is all about!

So you got it indeed working... very interesting.

Ok, I ran kdesudo systemsettings, switched to a different style, clicked Apply, changed back to Oxygen, clicked Apply, and closed sytemsettings again. Just as expected however, kdesudo dolphin still has the Oxygen style - *nothing* has changed.

You must've done something else which made styles apply properly for Kde apps run as root, and which has *nothing* to do with that hint from that ubuntuforums post.
                                What else did you do?
