Desktop sluggish after kde 4.5 upgrade

    Hi,

After upgrading to KDE 4.5 my desktop becomes very slow in response, even simple operations like dragging a window or typing in text cause problems. Anyone else noticed it? This is a Core i7 64-bit system with nVidia GT 220 video card (using latest proprietary nVidia drivers). I never had any such problems with the previous KDE 4.4.5 release, or any of 4.4 series to that matter. This is very frustrating, the system is relatively fast after initial login but as soon as I try starting 2-3 applications and do some work it comes to a crawl

Try to disable new "Blur" kwin effect, in some hw+sw configurations this is source of slowness or high CPU.

This did the trick indeed, thank you! And I even like it better without this transparent background blurring...

Yes, this blur generally makes just things look ugly. It's one thing I never liked about Vistaaargh, and I really wonder why they did port this crap over to Linux.
