    4.5, magic spam windows

After upgrading to 4.5 I have a problem. If I start KNutCleint or StarDict, the apps starts normally (sitting in system tray), but also two empty window are opened with "X" (meaning X11 app) icon on title. Trying to close these windows can result in KDE crash.

    Any workaround?

BTW, I'll be happy to know about more morden alternatives of these two apps.

To hide the empty X windows, you can do the following:
Click on the button on the very left of their window titlebar and select Advanced > Special window settings. On the Geometry tab, check "Minimised" and select "Forced". On the Preferences tab, check "Skip taskbar" and select "Forced". Click OK to save the rule, and you won't see the empty X windows again.

For dictionaries, you can use the Ectaco online dictonaries, which are pretty good and avaiable in 25 languages. They even have a dictionary where you can translate a word into 25 languages at the same time

No idea for a KnutClient alternative, don't use any Ups tools...

I prefer off-line translator, and I have found Qt StarDict incarnation named... QStarDict
Also, have built KNutClient from sources - last upstream version is one for KDE4.

As for magic windows... Well, I'm more willing to treat them as a bug. Say, gxine starting opens such window also. And, apparently, this list isn't finished... But, probably, it is KDE developers vision

I run two scripts at startup for checkgmail and they are also causing the x window popups.

It seems to be a QT 4.7 bug which is resolved upstream but has not been updated in Kubuntu packages.

          https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=241509

Anyway, why have they uploaded a beta version of QT when KDE 4.5 relies on the stable QT 4.6? The same happened with KDE 4.2 and QT 4.4 or something like that, KDE wasn't tested against a new QT version and they recommended the previous version but Kubuntu used the new one anyway causing glitches in Plasma that were completely avoidable if they did what the KDE team recommended.
