HAving to use sudo in applications stored in my /home directory

Running Kubuntu 10.4. My Home folder is in its own partition. In that I have installed both X-Plane and Google Earth. I have to use sudo to run these applications. Can anyone give me a starting point for putting this right? All files and directories within the X-Plane folder (and the folder itself) are owned by me.

This did not happen in any previous version of linux. I was using Suse from versions 7 through 10 and then switched to Kubuntu at 9.04. I have used 9.04 and 9.10 and now am using 10.4. Any other info you need?

im going to go out on a limb here and say you didn't use the package manager to install them , and that you did so as root. when u installed them , check the permissions of the files and make sure that users can run them ...
