I am trying to install Windows 7 (64bit) as a client in Virtualbox 3.2.6 running on Kubuntu 10.04 LTS (64bit), but the installation keeps crashing right in the beginning. I got the errors and switched to running Host I/O cache but that didn't help. The error screen I get in Windows is attached. Any help will be much appreciated.

Re: Windows 7 Installation crashes in Virtualbox
How much ram do you have? Win7 will eat a lot of it.
I have 7 64bit Ultimate in vbox, but I have quad core and 8gb's ram.
Settings to check:
1 gb RAM minimum
Enable IO APIC
Disable EFI
Enable PAE/NX
Enable VT-x/AMD-V
Enable Nested Paging
This allows it to run on my system but just barely.

Re: Windows 7 Installation crashes in Virtualbox
Win 7 Pro 64-bit would not install on 64-bit VMware Player, on my 64-bit Linux box (Kubuntu and sidux). I don't remember the exact error, but it looked like "wrong architecture" kind of problem.
Win 7 Pro 32-bit had no problem installing on the same VMware Player. So, there's some issue with the 64-bit Windows OS detecting a 64-bit VM environment.
I allocated the Win 7 VM 2G of my 4G of memory, which is more than it allegedly required, and it runs fine. Kinda boggy loading up, of course -- that's the Windows way.

Re: Windows 7 Installation crashes in Virtualbox
I have 2 GB dedicated to the VM. I set the options you suggested and it seems to be working! Thanks.
