    Firefox wont install in 10.04

I looked before typing this post.

    I found this: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3110257.0
Seems like nobody answered. Lets take another stab, shall we.

I have a very fresh install of Kubuntu 10.04. I opened the Firefox installer, and received a dialog box that states "Requested packages are already installed."

Like a sucker, I look in my Kmenu for the Firefox application. It's not there. Konqueerer is testing my patience.

    Please HELP!

No, I get the same exact result.

        Here is the console output:

        honeybear@honeybear-laptop:~$ sudo kubuntu-firefox-installer
        [sudo] password for honeybear:
Error: "/var/tmp/kdecache-honeybear" is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.
Error: "/tmp/kde-honeybear" is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.

Re: Firefox wont install in 10.04

I'm not using 10.04 yet. Is kubuntu-firefox-installer by any chance a GUI program? Should the command be
              kdesudo kubuntu-firefox-installer
              ?

Looking at the Kubuntu Guide - http://kubuntuguide.org/Lucid#Mozilla_Firefox , it suggests that Firefox should just be installed with the command
              sudo apt-get install firefox
Is it actually installed, but you don't have an icon? Try Alt+F2 and type firefox [enter]

If it is installed and you don't have an icon you will need to manually edit your KMenu

                OK,
                I typed:

                kdesudo kubuntu-firefox-installer
and got the same message, and here is console's output:

                honeybear@honeybear-laptop:~$ kdesudo kubuntu-firefox-installer
QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/honeybear/.config/ibus/bus
Bus:pen: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
                IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon
                honeybear@honeybear-laptop:~$
Then I typed your next suggestion:

                sudo apt-get install firefox
and got yet again the same thing, with this console output:

                honeybear@honeybear-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install firefox
                [sudo] password for honeybear:
                Reading package lists... Done
                Building dependency tree
                Reading state information... Done
Package firefox is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package firefox has no installation candidate
                honeybear@honeybear-laptop:~$
I appreciate the help, but now what?

                  And ALT+F2 yielded nothing also

Maybe somebody can instruct me on how to run the test in console, to see if the application is really there, in tact....
I know there is such a command, performed it many times for various purposes, but only under experts' guidance. I just simply forgot it all by now...

Use synaptic. If you don't have it, install it with:
                          sudo apt-get install synaptic

Launch synaptic, enter your root password and go to Settings > Repositories.
On the first tab (Ubuntu repositories), make sure all four checkboxes are checked (main, universe, restricted, multiverse).
On the second tab (Other software), click on "Add" and enter the following for the latest stable Firefox:
                          ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa

Confirm with "Add source", then click the "Close" button on the bottom. It will tell you that you need to reload, so confirm and click on "Reload" in the upper left corner.
Now enter firefox in the Quick Search box. Select the "Firefox" entry from the list, click on the white checkbox to its left and select "Mark for install". Confirm the dialog that tells you that additional packages need to be installed, then clikc the "Apply" button to download and install Firefox.

Ubuntuzilla doesn't have 64-bit builds, so you can't use it on 64-bit systems.

To see if firefox is installed open Konsole and type in firefox. If it is installed firefox should start.

You could also try synaptic and uninstall firefox and the re-install firefox
