    Webcam not working wih Skype

    I have recently installed Skype on Kubuntu 10.04 but unfortunately, I cannot get the webcam to work. When I use the test facility in the Skype video options, all I see is a blank white screen?

    The webcam is an integrated Acer Crystal Eye one.

    I have tested it using Kopete and it seems to work fine.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Have a look at http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3109791.0

    Have you loaded 'cheese' and 'guvcview'?

    That's as far as my 'expertise' goes!!

      Does it work with either one of these commands?
      Code:
      LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
      LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype
      If you are running the 64 bit kernel, try both of these instead and see if either one works
      Code:
      LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
      LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype

        Even if it shows blank on the test window, the webcam works once you are connected. How did you install Skype btw? Its now included in partner repositories and works fine when installed from there.

          Could you tell me how to install it from the partner repositories? I installed it by downloaded the file on the Skype website.

          Thanks.

            Just open up synaptic and type 'Skype' in the search box - it should pop up so click the check box and install.
            There are also some utilities 'skysentials' which you may or may or not need - I'd get it working first.

            See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Skype if you do not have the partner repo. in place.

            Note my earlier - it appears that 'cheese' and 'guvcview' should be loaded first.

            If you don't have synaptic install it via Kpackage it is better than Kpackage (at the moment)!

              software management>settings>edit software sources>other, tick on partner repos and reload.
