    Kaffeine crashing

After upgrade to Lucid, when I try to watch tv or play a dvd, Kaffeine crashes with the message 'Executable: kaffeine-xbu PID: 2240 Signal: 11 (Segmentation fault)'.
I wonder if I'm missing some codec? It could also be a broken file. My upgrade was interrupted by system crash, but I was able to finish it with dpkg and haven't seen any other problems. I removed and reinstalled the Kaffeine package, but I don't know which other packages it depends on. Would anyone have ideas on where to look for the problem?

    Rule of Thumb

When you get a mysterious error/no start/no audio/no video with the gui, use the cli.
With the cli you usually get a full error message and could do a net search with the error message.

When searching with the "kaffeine-xbu Segmentation fault"

Bug #584629 [kaffeine] kaffeine crashes immediately when opening the attached video
Bug reassigned from package 'kaffeine' to 'xine-lib'.
Bug No longer marked as found in versions kaffeine/1.0~pre3-3.

    Stopping processing here.
The kaffeine is using the Xine as backend. Try to reinstall the xine.

Here the kaffeine is working fine with the DVD's:
    :~$ kaffeine -v
    Qt: 4.6.2
KDE Development Platform: 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2)
    Kaffeine: 1.0
    and xine - libxine1-x (1.1.17-1ubuntu3):
X desktop video output plugins for libxine1

This package contains plugins for the xine video/media player engine
which are used for video display on the X desktop.

You most probably want to install this package if you are using a
graphical frontend like gxine, kaffeine or xine-ui. It contains xine output
plugins necessary for drawing on X11 Displays.

Based on some other posts I understand the stuff about ibus-daemon always appears when you run a gui-based program from command line. The rest doesn't make me much wiser.

Are the other players (Dragon player) that are using the Xine, working ?
If you are using the desktop effects, try to disable them.

          Re: Kaffeine crashing

I ended up doing a fresh install of Lucid, but it didn't change anything. I installed xine-ui and it works fine, but it's not very handy to use. Dragonplayer does not work, it says no media loaded even though the disc can be played with xine. Gxine does not work, it crashes at start. I don't know if it would work with KDE anyway, since it's meant for Gnome. Oh, and disabling desktop effects didn't help either.
Is there any other frontend to Xine that would provide scheduled recording and show dvb subtitles?
