I might have just solved this problem, but I need to wait a day or 2.

All I did was add my Google account and then just add my mxit contacts as their/phone/number@mxit.co.za or their/user/id@mxit.co.za. So far so good.

This problem has now been solved as per above post by myself without the need for the un-tarring, breaking system or pulling out your hair . . . and it's much easier :-0

I use pidgin as well and so far have had no issues.

funny what a person can do with Google search and some time inbetween Real Life and Second Life.
I just like Kopete because I can video call with everyone. I know Pidgin has it too, but Kopete just fits nice with Kubuntu.
At the end of the day I'm still a typical female and go for the looks ;-)

all my hair is still there and the problem is solved so I'm all smiles and just LOVE my Kubuntu-looking laptop . . . now I suppose I'll have to set up the kids computers - everyone in my house uses Linux.
