Kde 4.5 RC 1 on Ubuntu 10.04 issues

I've installed the new Kde 4.5 RC 1 on top of a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04.
So far it runs nicely, but there are a few minor issues:

    - The Login Manager in systemsettings doesn't work. Every time I try to apply the settings, I get an error message (something about not being able to create a new kdmrc). Kdm itself works without problems, and if you edit kdmrc in /etc/kde4/kdm manually, setting are used as they should.

    - Kde doesn't remember my wallpaper. Every time I log in, it presents me the default wallpaper, Etais, not my custom wallpaper, which is located in the Pictures folder in my home directory.

    - I can't change the widget style for the root account (kdesudo systemsettings > Appearance). Custom colours work fine, but I can't set a widget style other than Oxygen. I can select a widget style from the drop down list, and the preview is shown properly with my custom colours, but when I press "Apply", the style is not applied - instead the widget style remains stuck at Oxygen.

    - Synaptic ignores the colours and style I've set up for Gnome apps. Other Gnome apps (e.g. Gimp) use my colours and style just fine, but Synaptic uses colours and style of its own, making it look quite ugly.

As I said, it's nothing major, but I'd still be grateful if these issues could be fixed.
If I find more issues, I'll post them here as well.

The Synaptic issue isn't restricted to RC1, it's always been like that. There's a workaround for it on the ubuntu forums:

"kdesudo gtk-chtheme" works for me; of course, that's not using KDE-only means.

Alt-F2 "kdesudo dbus-launch systemsettings" starts it in Super User mode, which is what you need to make changes in the Login Manager.

That's it, probably... I had already run gtk-chtheme as ordinary user, but hadn't thought of running it as root.

          Ok, I'll try that.
In how far is this different from just running "kdesudo systemsettings"? What does the additional "dbus-launch" do?

I hope you will tell us.

dbus-launch needs to be running when you call systemsettings, and it doesn't always get configured to start automatically.

            http://linux.die.net/man/1/dbus-launch

            http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/dbus

In (recent) times past, the "kdesudo systemsettings" would fail to launch the utility, while the "kdesudo dbus-launch systemsettings" would launch it successfully. KDE 4 has been through rapid development in the past 2 years, and I have simply become accustomed to using the dbus-launch method, while coping with various bugs and breakages. If it is no longer useful, we can drop it -- you can be the expert to advise us about the results of your experiment.

I've tried it now, but the additional "dbus-launch" doesn't seem to change anything.

Other styles are previewed fine, but when you press "Apply", nothing happens: (click for big)

In "Login Screen", I still get the same error message when trying to apply any settings:

No idea where to fix it that it always resets my wallpaper to the default Ethais wallpaper... where is it stored which wallpaper you have?
As a workaround, I've now replaced the Etais wallpaper (in /usr/share/wallpapers) with my wallpaper :P

Finally, a success: Running gtk-chtheme as root worked fine for Synaptic (click for big)

Also, Printer Configuration is broken in KDE 4.5 So I can't print
                      "There is no KCModule system-config-printer-kde/system-config-printer-kde.py"
                      But system-config-printer-kde is installed correctly

Have you tried running system-config-printer directly as a workaround?
