Is Nepomuk (search in Dolphin) completely useless?

Is Nepomuk (search in Dolphin) completely useless?
Using 10.04 the Dolphin search tool seems completely useless--it can't find anything--it indexes, then returns no results.
It is turned on. Is there any point in messing with this, or should everyone just install Krusader?

    Any suggestions?

Here the Nepomuk & Strigi are working fine. If the "keyword" is in the Nepomuk database then the Dolphin and/or KRunner is showing the hits.

    Searching with the artist/composer.

Not sure why it isn't working for you,
There is still the option to use Kfind, go to Tools - Find File or Ctrl +F

For your information, these symptoms are also related with this bug:

Topic: System Language settings crash Nepomuk and Strig:

          http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3110547.0

Nepomuk/strigi crashes or refuses to work correctly with some languages (probably because of some special characters like éöüğşç - just a guess though), if those languages are set as system-wide/deafult locale. One workaround for this bug is to set system wide language to English. I filed this bug long ago, but it is not fixed yet (at least, not in KDE 4.4)

Oooh, nice. I was afraid kfind had been tossed-out. I'll put that back in the menu & wait for KDE to fix their new toy.

Re: Is Nepomuk (search in Dolphin) completely useless?

Might be a silly question, but do you have Desktop Search turned on and configured?

                K > System Settings > Advanced > Desktop Search
                Basic Settings
                tab:
Enable Nepomuk Semantic Desktop and Strigi Desktop File Indexer - are they checked?

                File Indexing tab:
                Strigi Index Folders
Have you checked the folders you want indexed? If you want removable media included in the indexing, have you checked Index Files on Removable Media?
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

What version of KDE SC are you using?. In the case you are in 4.4.4, there is a problem with libsoprano that could be related to this. This has already been reported:

                  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...no/+bug/590088

The last post indicates that this is solved in soprano 2.4.3.

Any one knows if that is that version is going to be backported?

@beetle: Soprano? Nepomuk is using Virtuoso these days.

So, then, why: dmesg | grep -i nepomuk is reporting this?:

and also seems to be happening in the bug report I pasted in my previous post.

By the way, it seems that virtuoso is the backend for Soprano. Maybe you meant soprano/sesame
