Re: How do I configure Kubuntu to play in 5.1 surround sound?
1) You have to have a 5.1 capable sound card.
2) The 5.1 capable sound card needs to be recognized in Kubuntu.
3) The 5.1 capable sound card, if recognized in Kubuntu, needs to be properly configured.
Sorry for the pointedness of the answer, but really, how do you expect anyone here to offer any useful assistance when you provided absolutely nothing concerning your PCs hardware and sound card? :PWindows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

If you are using PulseAudio, then first open a terminal and
Code:sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install pavucontrol paman
Alt-F2 "pavucontrol" with no quote marks, and look at the "Configuration" tab. Mine is set on "Analog Surround 5.1 Output + Analog stereo input" and works good.
If you are using a different sound system, then as Snowhog says we'll need a lot more data.

Sorry, I just played around in the sound and found that one of the volume controls needed to be up because it managed the power between sub-woof and two of the speakers so I just balance those out and get what I need.
Thanks everyone.
