I have a unique situation, or so I think. I recently had to rebuild my main PC due to the motherboard dying and so I opted to buy a ridiculously powerful beast. To make my life easier and to appease my wife (who constantly complained her computer was slow), I setup her computer as a dumb terminal so it connects via XDMCP to my new machine.
The only issue I have at this point, is when her session is connected all sound plays through the server, instead of being directed to her remote computer.
Here is the catch though. I need the server to be able to send sound to its own card WHILE my wife is also connected via XDMCP. So the server will still output sound on any actions performed at the server, and the remote computer would output sound for any actions performed by the remote computer.
So with that said, I think the following two options are all I have.
1) Add a second sound card and configure my wife's login account to use that card specifically and run the sound cable from that card's output to her speakers (this is only possible because her computer is within 12 feet of the server)
2) Pipe the sound accordingly based on where the action requesting the sound came from. (Hoping pulse audio can do this, but I really haven't a clue if it is possible).
Which of the following options do you see being the most reliable for my situation and do you know of any good documentation that could help me with either option? I've been searching off and on for the past 2 days but I haven't found anything useful yet. Most simply wanted to send ALL audio away from the server to the remote PC, and that is not what I need.
