    [fixed] Cannot access full-screen console...

When I boot up for the first time, I cannot log in to the console from the login screen. When I press <Alt>+<Ctrl>+<F2>, I cannot access the console.

In both cases, here is what I see:

In the lower-left corner of the screen, "Ubuntu 10.04 LTS eviscerati tty[x]"

Where [x] is 2 for <F2> and I think 7 for when I try to access the console from the login screen.

When I try to access it with <alt>+<ctrl>+<f2> nothing ever happens. I have to <alt>+<ctrl>+<f7> to get back to KDE. When I try to access it from the login screen, it eventually resets itself and returns me to the login screen.

This only happens, by the way, when I configure grub2 to set the console resolutions higher than 640x480.

    Any thoughts?

Thoughts, yeah. Not entirely sure though.

The buntus use tty2 as their primary tty. Don't ask me why - just about every other distro uses tty1. My take on your situation is that all sorts of daemons are loading in the background and that therefore tty2 is busy. Try any of the other ones (1,3,4,5,6). They should work.

Okay, shot in the dark landed nowhere...

I had a similar problem once and it was due to xkeyboard settings in xorg.conf - I used uk instead of gb for a British layout (doh!). But as I haven't used kubuntu for some 18 months I am not sure what changes have taken place since, sorry. All I can suggest is that you check your locale settings from top to bottom.

        Over and out.

            Re: Cannot access full-screen console...

grub-pc will block access to your tty's at any resolution other than 640x480. This is a known issue.

I have written a post about it, but I warn you - it doesn't work for everyone.
