[fixed itself, haha] Weather not working (wallpaper or widgets)

So, I'm not sure if this is Lucid and/or 4.4 specific, since I haven't tried using on anything other than 4.2, but the Weather wallpaper doesn't work for my city at all, and it used to. Furthermore, several other things seem to be going wrong with the weather backends.

I'm currently in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. None of the other providers (BBC, wetter, and NOAA) seem to be able to scrape the weather for this city (despite, from what I recall, them being able to before) and if I set the wallpaper weather to Environment Canada it never returns a result when I hit "search". Worse, when I tried to test Environment Canada as the provider for the stock plasma weather widget it crashed my plasma desktop!

I'm running 10.04 (naturally, since I'm posting it on this part of the forum :P) on AMD64, with NVIDIA graphics (in case that matters for the crash) and I'm still running 4.4.2; this is my main PC which I like to be relatively stable, but if folks think 4.4.3 might fix this issue I'm quite willing to give it a go.

KDE 4.4.3 is primarily a bug fix, and recommended for those running 4.4.2.

I'm not saying that KDE 4.4.3 will fix your problem.

I'm currently using Kubuntu 10.04 (KDE 4.4.3), also on AMD64. I have no problems with the weather wallpaper. I too am in Canada and I'm using the Environment Canada service for the wallpaper - now the only thing I can think of is to check under the advanced options to see if all the different weather conditions have different wallpapers set. ( I went through and set a different wallpaper for every condition listed, I can't remember if this is done by default). Hope this helps.

I use the plasmoid YAWP, which gives me up to a five day forcast, for both day and night, and a radar map.

I tried the weather wallpaper, assuming it would give something similar to YAWP. I was surprised. It does not.

It changes wallpaper and shows images which correspond to the current weather but, as far as I could see, NO temps, NO wind direction, etc... Other than that, Environment Canada - Edmonton AB weather seemed to work according to its design on my notebook (Intel GM45 graphic chip)

I've found that the the best weather information notification for use in Linux happens to be Windows - I just look out of them from where I'm sitting. (yeah, really bad pun, but I just couldn't help myself!)

Well, as it turns out after a reboot (there was a pending kernel upgrade I still hadn't rebooted for, since I reboot this machine on average once a month heh, and I wanted to see if it would fix the slight weirdness that happens when the NVIDIA drivers start the X display; it did!) it's all working perfectly now. Dunno why it wasn't working before, I had even entirely exited my KDE session and started a new one, but there you have it.

Actually, I like the Weather background precisely because all it does is somewhat jive with the outside, especially since my main computer here is right beside an openable window on my main floor; makes the background of my computer (at least, on that monitor on that virtual desktop) jive with the background outside
