No sound while playing media files in lucid 10.04 [SOLVED]

Hi all,

I installed kubuntu 10.04 and now no sound is coming out while playing media files through VLC and amarok.... however default theme sound of kubuntu is coming..... please help.....

What type of media files are you playing? What are the file extensions?

If sound is working in other apps, then start looking at VLCs settings.

Open KMix and see if PCM volume control slider is set to low, that's what i had to adjust after i installed all media codecs.

Issue has been fixed, problem was with settings in kmix as ReadySteadyGo said....... thanks to all.... let me ask you guys one more thing....is there any plugins available for media applications for improving sound quality just like DFX in windows??...... Not a big matter....any way thanks to all again....
