KBluetooth isn't working?

Launching K > Applications > Internet > kbluetooth doesn't do anything. Nothing launches. Nothing in Top. No additional items in the Task Manager or System Tray (KBluetooth is already in the System Tray when the Desktop is loaded).
Running kbluethooth from a console reports:

KBluetooth is already running!

The System Tray KBluetooth isn't functional. All the options are grayed out. What am I missing? What is one supposed to do to enable Bluetooth support?

My Bluetooth system tray icon is fully active and all options on the popup menus are enabled.

However, with the exception of my cellphone, to which it refuses to connect (understandably) I haven't tried to connect it to any other bluetooth device, so I don't know if any of those active menu options can really do anything.

Is it possible that the app isn't active (options are not grayed out) because I'm connected by wire - I'm not using my wireless connection?

Hmm. Switched to my wireless connection. KBluetooth still shows none of it's options as available - still all grayed out.

Is your ObexServer running? (I don't know what its purpose is, but my bluetooth app is working and that server is running.)

My ~/.kde/share/config/kbluetoothrc config is identical to yours. How would I check to see if the ObexServer is running? It isn't identified in Service Manager.

I had nothing but problems with KBluetooth when I tried it in 9.10, but Blueman works like a dream. Too bad support for Blueman was discontinued with 10.04

A check in the checkbox on the ObexServer menu option says it is on, no check = off.

You can use "sudo service --status-all" in a Konsole to see if the bluetooth service is on and in which run levels, and "sudo netstat -lp" will show "@org/blue/audio" as an active I-Node on the audio device.

ObexServer menu? Is this an actual program - if it is, it isn't on my system (not in the K Menu anywhere) - or a daemon? How do you access it?

This may seem obvious - but are you sure your bluetooth receiver is working/connected

If I pull my bluetooth out, the taskbar icon goes gray.

I needed to use my wife's laptop, also running LL, and noticed her Bluetooth icon was gray!

I compared files in /etc/bluetooth and didn't see any difference. Her Bluetooth service is running too, but I can't check "settings --> ObexServer" because the icon is gray.

Thank you for another's confirmation of what I'm describing. No, I don't have any Bluetooth adapter connected. Hmm. Reviewing the Specifications shows:

Wireless/Bluetooth

Toshiba USB Adapter with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR capability

I guess that means, that without the adapter connected (I don't have one), no Bluetooth.

I have this labeled as Toshiba PA3455u. Toshiba does not acknowledge that it exists on their web site. No documentation, drivers, or updates. I've spent almost two hours now on the phone. Tech support will not support it. Said to call Toshiba Direct...who says, they only sell the product. Must go back to tech support.

Next tech agent said his supervisor would not come to the phone. After 15 minutes, gave me a case number and apologized that he is not allowed to offer support for this. Said to call a "special" 800 number for Toshiba Accessories Department, who will offer support.

The 800 number rang to another company entirely: Superwarehouse.com, who said that they only sell the stuff; they don't offer any kind of tech support.

Called back to tech support again demanding that Toshiba replace this with a product that they _will_ support. Am still holding for a supervisor.

Apparently, these are not made any more. Toshiba slapped their logo on it. The only ones remaining are closeouts that weren't able to be sold.

Guess I won't worry about trying to get this.

Is there a good howto for bluetooth on Lucid anywhere?
There is so much bogus and out of date info all over the net its hard to know where to begin.
I had my Palm Treo synching with jpilot under 8.04, only managed to get it recognised and paired under 9.10 (with file transfers OK, but not synching), and haven't been able to get it to pair under lucid yet.

The Bluetooth icon on this notebook (KLL with KDE 4.4.3) is blue (active), not gray, and all menu options are active, but the only Bluetooth device in the vicinity is my Bluetooth earphone linked to my cellphone, on my waist. I rolled my wife's laptop right next to this one and her Bluetooth icon stayed gray.

Out of curiosity I once tried to connect my earphone to my notebook using the Bluetooth icon options. It negotiated but couldn't connect. Not the right handshake.
