Hey all...Is there a way to run emerald with kubuntu 1.04...

    Re: Emerald

    I do

emerald requires compiz - you can't run it under kwin.

    1. Install compiz compiz-kde, compizconfig-settings-manager, whatever compiz plugins you like and emerald.

    2. in system settings --> personal -> default applications change your window manager from kwin to compiz.

    3. From a terminal window or a run dialog, do

    emerald --replace &

    All done!

Screenshot of my netbook with an emerald theme -

For some reason skydome and cube caps broke with the last set of upgrades but that'll get fixed soon.

      cheers -

          Re: Emerald

It's better to install the "compiz-kde" package instead of "compiz", if using KDE. The other brings in some stuff you don't really need in KDE.

Back 'in the day' - before KDE 4 - I used Compiz. I haven't used it since KDE 4 came along and matured (KDE 4.4.3 here), and native Desktop Effects were included.

Might be just my configuration but I find compiz is a little bit faster than kwin - at least on my netbook.
