Kontact contacts unavailable because of akonadi server

    Kontact contacts unavailable because of akonadi server

    The Kontact contacts window is grayed out with a red X in the middle saying, "Akonadi not operational". Clicking on the details button gives everything checked green except:

    No resource agents found.
    Previous akonadi server error log found.

    Not having contacts is a big deal. Having looked at the KDE PIM akonadi architecture page at

    http://pim.kde.org/akonadi/

    I think I do not want to get into this. Is there no easy fix?

    I realize this was an issue during Lucid pre-release, but I did not see any solution in a reasonable number of steps.

    If you quite Kontact and start it again, do you get access to your contacts?

      I'm not the original poster, but I have exactly the same problem. As long I let KMail issue the error message first I can restart KMail and all is well.
      An old mainframer trying to get modern in his retirement.

        Currently akonadi/kontact/kmail have ... issues ... But they can be worked around. As others have said, restarting kmail should restore access to your contacts.

        Autostarting akonadi shoud help as, the following script starts it before KDE starts (writing from memeory here)

        then reboot *should* do away with the problem

          Yes, but... All the addresses have disappeared. I have seen this before and find it more than annoying. A contacts list which loses addresses is worse than useless. Do I have to reimport an ldif each time I start Kontact?

          I stopped Kontact, killed all the akonadi processes and restarted it. Same problem. During the startup, I see

          What the ... is akonadai doing with mysql? What even tells it I have installed mysql? Using phpmyadmin, I see 4 data bases:

          information_schema
          my joomla data base
          mysql
          phpmyadmin

          What does this mean?

          Anyone else have this problem? Or an alternative program to Kontact?
